See how we do it

Our packing lines have evolved over the years. We remember the days when we washed our carrots in a feed trough with a broom. Then we hand-weighed and bagged them.

Our building addition in 2006 gave us room for a new drum washer and automatic baggers. To begin the packing process, bins of root vegetables, such as beets, carrots, rutabaga and potatoes are tipped by forklift into a hopper that feeds the drum washer. From there the vegetables are mechanically sorted by size and then moved by a conveyer for inspection. During visual inspection, the vegetables travel on rollers which turn the product so our staff can see it from all sides. Our experienced crew takes pride in ensuring each bag of produce is the finest quality. The automated weighing system empties the correct amount of produce into a bag which is then removed and packed for shipping to our customers.

The vegetables that do not meet Canada #1 specifications are put into bins for use as animal food for organic meat farmers or they become compost for our fields. This is another example of the cycles on our farms.
