- ORGANIC farmers use no chemical herbicides or fumigants.
- ORGANIC farmers use only natural or other organically approved insecticides. Two important criteria for allowed pesticides (as legislated by the Canadian General Standards Board) are low toxicity to people and other animals, and low persistence in the environment.
- ORGANIC farmers provide a safer working environment for field workers.
- ORGANIC farmers grow strong, healthy plants which are more resistant to disease.
- ORGANIC farmers save water by building healthy soils which retain moisture.
